The Global Deaf Muslim Federation is a global organisation working to ensure equal rights for deaf muslims around the world.
GDMF adheres to a principled approach centered on fostering inclusion within the Islamic community. One of its fundamental initiatives involves collaborating with Islamic organizations to facilitate Friday sermons that are accessible to Deaf Muslims. This is achieved by providing skilled interpreters to bridge the communication gap.
Additionally, GDMF actively engages with organizers of Islamic conferences and conventions, encouraging them to employ Sign Language Interpreters. Whenever feasible, GDMF utilizes its dedicated volunteers to raise awareness about its mission. These volunteers operate informational booths, showcasing the organization’s impactful work.
A pivotal component of GDMF’s efforts is the provision of Islamic classes tailored for Deaf Muslims, constituting one of its cornerstone programs. Presently, these classes are led by knowledgeable Imams, with the invaluable assistance of American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters who ensure the seamless transmission of information in sign language.
Recognizing the importance of reaching a geographically diverse audience, GDMF harnesses the power of online videos and electronic media as potent communication tools. In collaboration with partner organizations, GDMF translates essential Islamic materials into sign language. This strategic approach ensures that these resources are readily accessible to Deaf Muslims, enhancing their understanding and participation within the Islamic community. Through these initiatives, GDMF continues to make significant strides in fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for Deaf Muslims.
